July 4th Recap

I hope all of my American friends had a fantastic 4th- rain or shine! Even if the rain had put a damper on your fireworks, I still hope you enjoyed the day!! What did my family do? Well, I am so glad you asked!

The day started with me being able to sleep in. I knew we weren’t going to leave until much later. So, fast forward to 4:30 (I mostly read up until that time!). We finally packed up the huge cooler and left. With food and chairs in tow, we find a picnic area, under a tree (shade!!!) and near the lake.

It was really a beautiful place and quite peaceful. Before we set out the food, my sis and I vowed that after eating, we were going to go swimming in the lake. Now keep in mind that it has been years upon years since I’ve been swimming. this little information will come in handy soon!

So, after my father gets the car parked, we all pile out of it. It’s funny. The air near water feels a tiny bit better than in the city. Who knew? Apparently, not I! It was still hot, but bearable.  Ahh… the fantastic picnic weather had greeted us. It was the perfect setting. You could hear the boats on the lake. It was relaxing.

Our picnic foods consisted of chicken, rolls, 2 kids of potato salad (mustard & mayo), macaroni salad and Church’s Chicken mashed potatoes and gravy. Extremely yummy food!!

image_12Okay, so the chicken from Church’s, too!

So, we’ve all eaten (with plenty of food left over). What happens next? Swimming. Well, actually it didn’t happen. My dad told us to watch out for snakes. Here’s where that information about me forgetting how to swim comes in. Worried about snakes now and scared, my sis and I just sat there splashing water each other like kids. It definitely felt good, on a hot day, to be in the water.

Fast forward (yet again) to the fireworks. This year’s fireworks were fantastic! In fact, I have a few to show you! My only wish is that I had a camera that takes pictures to keep up with the fireworks. I’m guessing it would need a fast shutter speed? Does one exist?

What a way to end Independence Day!

(P.S. When I can, I’ll upload the firework finale video. When I do, turn down the volume on your computer as we were only 2 blocks away from where they were shooting them off. It’ll be loud!!)

Girls Night Out Recap

Last night we had a girls night out- as you probably already know. Boy did we have fun! At first we just drove around the city. The sun was setting and there wasn’t much to do at 8pm at the time. My sister, however, got some gorgeous pictures of the sun setting. So, before I get on with the story, I will post those pictures so you can see how well my sister knows her photography. Of course, she is the photography genius in the house.

Sunset over a field?

See how great she is at the camera? Way to go, Sis!

So, what did we do after wasting gas for about 30 minutes? Someone got hungry. Not only me, but camerawoman got hungry, too. Wait… I forgot something. We took a picture at the beginning of our night out of us together. Look how excited Elvira is…

I wonder why she isn’t smiling. Most of the time, I don’t have my glasses on when I take pictures. This was a different situation. I use my glasses mostly for when I drive. This time we stopped in the HEB parking lot and took this picture. It was the closest one to us.

So back to being hungry. We could not decide what we wanted to eat. At that time, I was craving everything. Pizza, Chinese, Subway, hamburgers, Tex-Mex. What did we decide on? We decided on Subway. So, I pulled into the Subway parking lot (another parking lot not far from HEB!), and we chose who would go in and get it. Angela volunteered. We ended up getting a tuna with everything except jalapenos and onions. I felt sorry for sis. Apparently, their air conditioner in the store wasn’t working and so the store was hot hot hot. Next time, I go in. We shared a foot long sub. She got half, and I got half.

Nom nom nom.

Most of the time I don’t like pictures of me eating being taken, but hey, this was something we may not do for quite a while. By the way, the sub tasted great!!

Since we didn’t get any drink with our food, we decided after eating all of that, we were extremely thirsty. I didn’t want a soda because I was going to get one later. I started craving a milkshake really badly. Sugar rush to the rescue! We drove to Whataburger (I love their shakes!) and we both got a vanilla shake, but she got a small and I got a medium. Told you I was craving one!

So, after getting our drink, we drove around a little bit more so we could finish them. I’ve come to realize that most people don’t get out on Saturday night until really late- but I didn’t want to wait until 10pm to get out. I was bored. We needed something to do!

After an hour and a half or more of being out, we decided to stop by the Corner Store and head on home. It was a bad idea to go down a rough street with a lot of ice cream in your stomach. It felt like you were a rollercoaster and you were going to just toss your cookies. No tossing of the cookies happened. We went into the store and got a gallon of milk and sodas not only for us, but our parents, too.

Fast forward to us getting home. We drove up to the front of the house (we have no driveway), and took one last picture of us together. So, as soon as my sister got out of the car, the handle on the very cheap plastic bag broke that held the milk. Well, there went that gallon of milk. It’s a good thing we didn’t want any more dairy products!

So, although the night seemed to be a great one, it ended with spilled milk and full and yet, happy tummies!

Birthday Ideas For Mom

Because my mom reads the blog, I can’t really lay out all of the details I would love to gift. However, I am beginning to make a list of gifts to get my Mother. So, why am I doing a birthday list for Mom? Well… isn’t it obvious? Her birthday is coming up- June to be exact. Last year on her birthday, I was just getting over a mild case of food poisoning, so I couldn’t really get her anything. So this year, I plan on making it up to her. Now, I have a few things, without getting too detailed, that I would love to try and do for her. Even if it’s just one of the ideas, then I know that she would have the best birthday she’s ever had.

NOTE TO MOM: If you want to be more surprised, you should probably look away.

  • The first idea involves a picture of her daughters. Of course it has to be something she can look at every time she passes by it. I better get some pricing/shipping ideas or this could get costly.
  • The next idea could be something yummy. I would love to shut down our favorite Chinese restaurant just for her, but I’m no wh ere near having that much money. So, I guess I’ll stick with something feasible: A pack of gum. I’m just kidding!
  • I wonder how much a personalized reading material costs. By the way, I don’t know if other states (other than Texas) had this, but remember about 10 or so year ago, they had this kiosk where you can personalize your own greeing card? You picked the stationary (by pressing buttons), and then you picked, or rather-typed out your own greeting on the little keyboard. You printed it out and then took it to a cashier to pay for it. I absolutely loved that kiosk!
  • I seem to have gotten off topic. Actually, it’s right on topic. I’m just babbling. So back to gift ideas. Does anyone know where I can get a magical wand or a genie that grants 3 wishes? Or maybe even a fairy Godmother like Cinderella had? That would make it exciting!!

So now Mom is turning another year older this year. It’s too bad I can’t give her the world. Not just Earth- she should get Pluto, too! Go ahead and add Venus to that planet list! I better stop with the planets or I’ll never get any price hunting done!

Hunger Sets In

I have a bad habit. Well, I have several bad habits, but this particular one happens every day. I can’t exactly run from it. Also, I wouldn’t really think of it as a habit, although I’m not sure what you would call it… one of life’s cruel games?

You have no clue what I’m talking about, do ya? I thought so. Well, I tend to watch the Food Network when I am really hungry. Not only does it give me great ideas for dinner/lunch/breakfast, i t makes me drool over the fantastic food they make. I could even watch Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern and think those weird foods look delicious. Although, I would probably skip the bugs and insects- they just look icky and nasty. I have tried squid before, so I don’t mind weird. Well, now I want Chinese food. Oh to have sushi and spring rolls right now…. I would be in food heaven. Sigh. Maybe one of theses days.

food-fastI also will look at food websites when online, when I’m hungry. I’ll find cakes, cookies, or other foods. I don’t do it on purpose, and I guess I do it subconciously. But also, I try to get gift ideas. Since my mom’s birthday is coming up, I have 2 ideas for a gift. She may say “Oh you don’t have to get me anything.” Yes, I do! First, she’s my mom and deserves the stars. Second, you have a birthday once a year (Yes, I stated the obvious… I wasn’t thinking about it), so you need to feel happy to see another year. So, hopefully I can either do one of both birthday gift ideas. I just hope I can get them or it in time.

Great, now I’ve made myself hungry once again and it’s way too hot to cook. I guess I’ll grab a bowl of cereal and use my imagination and pretend it’s a chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. Mmmm….

Relaxation At It’s Best!

I had gotten the chance to review the newest Yanni Voices on another blog. Oh my gosh! Is this what relaxation feels like? Apparently, it has been an extremely long time since I have experienced it. Every muscle in my body is no longer tense… well, maybe my hand is the exception- studying long hours will do that. I need hands of steel!

With the economy the way it is, I have tried everything to relax. I tried reading, but I would tense up to see what was going to happen next. I love cooking, so I watched the Food Network. Bad idea. I got really hungry. The next idea was to sleep. How in the heck would I sleep if I was so hungry? So, after a week and a half of procrastinating on the review, I popped in the CD. That was the answer. Now, all i needed was a glass of red wine and a guy who would make my heart flutter. Yes, I still dream of the perfect and romantic guy for me. Maybe even one who has a deep and seductive singing voice. Oh sorry. I was daydreaming again. I’ve got to stop that.

I am still trying to figure out other ways of reaching the perfect relaxation plane. Either way, I atleast found one that I can add to my list: Yanni. He’s not bad to look at, either! *wink*

Creeper Creepington

You know, you never know where you’ll meet someone or the circumstances. However, I bet meeting someone at a library doesn’t seem… exciting- unless the initial conversation revolves around literature or the new Twilight book. Now, I have no problem striking up a conversation with a single guy. The problem is, if a guy has no dating skills, respect for women, or is pushy, that can be a huge huge turn-off for me. Do you really want to know the point I am trying to make? Be prepared to feel creeped out. I know I was!

A few days ago, my sister and I were at the library one morning. A few minutes later, this random guy started talking to my sister. I just thought he was friendly. Well, he then asked her how old I was and if I was seeing anyone. This seems harmless, I know. This guy then asked for my number. Something in me felt uncomfortable about giving it to him- so I didn’t. When she and I got up from our chairs, he wanted to talk to me. He’s 42. I’m 24. Age usually doesn’t matter. However, I felt completely uncomfortable with him. He asked me if I liked to french kiss (sometimes) and also if I like Italian food (as long as it’s not Olive Garden). He walked me and my sister to our car. He wanted to hold my hand. I hadn’t even known him for 5 minutes. As we got into the car, he put his hand on my thigh. I felt uneasy. He then tried to lean in for a kiss… a french kiss at that! He got air as I pulled back. He then tried again and got my cheek. I felt SO uncomfortable that when he left, I wanted to throw up. Thinking about it still upsets my stomach!!

When we left the library parking lot, I told my sister that if she hadn’t been there, he probably would have pushed himself on me even further.

Why do the psychos find me? This is another reason I hate being single. I now can’t trust many guys. Thank you Mr. Single-Psycho-Foot-Fetish loser.
